Didier Fornerol Blanc Cote de Nuits Villages

Product Info

The 2020 Côte de Nuits-Villages Blanc unwinds in the glass with notes crisp orchard fruit, peach, fresh mint, bee pollen and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and incisive, with a sweet core of fruit and a chalky finish, it should evolve beautifully in the cellar.

Didier Fornerol worked for a decade at Domaine d'Arlot under Jean-Pierre de Smet before returning to take over the reins of his family domaine in 1999. Amounting to some 6.5 hectares, it hasn't changed in size—the only difference is that Didier has bought parcels of vines he was already farming on a sharecropping basis. The vineyards are cultivated with the minimum of treatments, and winemaking is simple. Whites ferment in barrel. "I put the juice in the barrel and leave it alone, and so much the worse—or rather, so much the better!" explains Didier. Reds see large percentages of whole clusters and then mature in barrel too, with both colors spending 12 months in wood before racking for bottling. The favored cooper these days is Rousseau. "A neighbor of mine used to work at another cooperage and made me barrels that I liked. And when he moved to Rousseau, I asked him if he could make me the same sort of barrels, and he did."
